If you can't release a negative emotion, explore it. Get some paper or a blank document file and write a question based on the problem, like "Why am I depressed?" or "Why am I angry?" and let any thoughts that spring up flow immediately onto the page. Some of it might be ridiculous or nonsensical. That's great! Get all that stuff out. Dig deep. Don't judge or edit as you go.
Once it's all out, look back and see if there are any ridiculous beliefs that are obviously untrue. Recognize them and that you don't need them anymore. Laugh them off. Find all the other negative beliefs, the ones that may require more exploration to understand. Create positive affirmations to negate these. This can feel weird. If you wrote "I hate myself," saying "I love myself" 50 times might feel uncomfortable and wrong, but may be exactly what you need to get on the right track. Words are powerful! Say or write your positive affirmations until you believe them or at least stop resisting them. Once you have enough clarity and release, write the positive affirmations down somewhere for later, and destroy/delete the other pages.
